Want to Stay Fit Forever? Master These 3 Habits

If you want stay fit forever, you need to master three simple things.

  1. Consistency: make time for it every day, five days a week, every week, for life. Just like going to work or brushing your teeth, your daily workout happens no matter what.
  2. Do it because it makes you feel good. No drug, drink, video game, or Netflix binge can match the high you get from finishing a tough workout.
  3. Train to be strong and conditioned, not just to chase a number on the scale.

When you focus on performance and consistency instead of weight loss, the results you’re after will follow naturally.

Consistency

I have been working out since high school- playing sports, working out in the gym by myself and with other people, for over ten years.

No matter my motivation, schedule, or how sore I feel, I’ve learned that when I stay consistent, I always feel better after finishing my workout.

Consistency is not working out once one week, a few times the next, taking three weeks off, and then coming back for four workouts in one week.

Consistency is five workouts every week without long breaks.

The members who are the leanest, strongest, fastest, and fittest are the ones who show up four to five times a week, every week, for years.

Their workouts are built into their daily routine at the same time each day.

They choose to work out regularly because they know it makes them feel good.

Workout Because It Makes You Feel Good

When new members join our gym, they often notice the same thing even before they see changes on the scale. They feel better. That is a priceless feeling.

When someone goes from being sedentary to working out five times a week, their mood improves dramatically.

Over time, they also notice big improvements in strength and conditioning.

To be honest, I almost never feel motivated to workout.

Very rarely do I wake up excited to train unless I have 30omg of caffeine.

But I always know that if I stop what I am doing and commit to an hour in the gym, I will feel a hundred times better afterward.

If I skip, I feel guilty and regret it.

There is no amount of drugs, alcohol, or streaming that can compare to the feeling you get when you finish a workout.

Train to Be Strong and Build an Unstoppable Engine

Stop obsessing over the number on the scale and start training to be capable. Strength and conditioning allow you to move freely, avoid injuries, and make daily life easier.

As a benchmark, men should aim to press their bodyweight, squat one and a half times their bodyweight, and deadlift twice their bodyweight.

See this article from Men’s Journal for more: https://www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/3-strength-standards-for-men.

Women should aim to press seventy percent of their bodyweight, squat their bodyweight, and deadlift one and a half times their bodyweight.

Conditioning goals are equally important. A good target is being able to run a mile in under eight minutes, with six minutes or less being excellent.

These goals take years to reach, but the process of pursuing them will completely transform your body and your health.
